Calanais
The Calanais Stones are one of Scotland’s most magnificent and best-preserved Neolithic sites, attracting around 100,000 visitors each year.
A new Visitor Centre, set to open in spring 2026 and owned and managed by local charity Urras nan Tursachan, will offer innovative interpretation alongside a strong conservation ethos promoting a deeper understanding of the site while safeguarding its cultural and natural heritage.
A new online booking system will encourage visitors to select specific dates and times, particularly during peak periods. In partnership with Historic Environment Scotland, who manage the Calanais Stones site, and with a strong focus on community and sustainability, the new visitor centre will prioritise conservation, education, and responsible tourism ensuring the ancient stones are protected for generations to come.
